Stephen Colbert is well known for regularly bashing Trump with nightly monologues. Trump jokes have been the normal for his late show, but Thursday night Colbert did something a little different.
Colbert was discussing the success of the “Roseanne” return from a 20 year hiatus. Colbert praised the sitcoms outstanding reviews just moments after Trump publicly announced he had called Roseanne Barr to congratulate her on her success.
“The reason why Trump crowed about the ratings is because on the show the character Roseanne agrees with Donald Trump, and a lot of people have called that refreshing,” Colbert said.
Colbert “sincerely” apologized to Trump and said they both can agree on “CNN lies.” Colbert also said “I take everything back. I apologize. Donald Trump is a great President, come on.”
Colbert continued by saying “Hear me out. Last night, we had my old friend Dana Carvey on the show, and he did a fantastic impression of the new national security adviser, John Bolton.”
Colbert pointed out that the next morning he had seen CNN published an article about the impression with the headline, “Look who’s playing John Bolton on SNL.”
Colbert however, did find a little room to still throw a couple jabs at Trump. Maybe Colbert is just joking around and doesn’t really mean it. Maybe Colbert secretly voted for Trump. Leave a comment down below.
